Getting LED Right
After hundreds of LED installations across the San Fernando Valley — here’s what actually matters.
Always use LEDs with a CRI of 90+ for living spaces. CRI measures how accurately the light renders colors — 90+ looks natural, 80 or below looks flat and clinical. For kitchens and bathrooms where you need accurate color, don’t compromise on CRI.
2700K–3000K for warm, natural light in living rooms and bedrooms. 3500K–4000K for kitchens, home offices, and bathrooms where you want clarity. 5000K+ for garages, warehouses, and security lighting only — it’s too harsh for living spaces.
Always use dimmable LEDs with a compatible LED dimmer. Standard (incandescent) dimmers cause buzzing, flickering, and early LED failure. LED Guys always matches the fixture to the correct Lutron or Leviton LED dimmer — no buzzing, smooth dimming from 100% to 1%.
Recessed LED spacing should be roughly half the ceiling height. For an 8-foot ceiling, space cans 4 feet apart. For angled or sloped ceilings, use adjustable-head trim. For task lighting over counters, aim directly down. LED Guys provides a free layout plan with every recessed lighting quote.
