Question 1

How much does a Tesla Powerwall 3 installation cost in North Hollywood?

Accepted Answer

A single Powerwall 3 fully installed typically runs in the low-to-mid five figures, depending on your panel capacity, whether you want whole-home or essential-loads backup, conduit distance, and whether solar is part of the project. The battery hardware is only part of the cost — a real installation includes the Backup Gateway or Backup Switch, disconnects, wiring, LADBS permits, and commissioning. Jorge provides a written fixed-price estimate after the free site assessment, and it includes the full electrical scope with no change orders.

Question 2

How long will a Powerwall keep my house running during an outage?

Accepted Answer

It depends on what you run. Essential loads only — refrigerator, lights, Wi-Fi, outlets — can run for one to several days on a single 13.5 kWh Powerwall 3. Moderate whole-home use typically runs 24–48 hours. Homes with solar recharge the battery every day the sun is up, which lets many households ride through multi-day outages entirely. Jorge models your expected runtime from your actual LADWP usage during the on-site assessment.

Question 3

Can I add a Powerwall to my existing solar system?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The Powerwall 3 AC-couples to existing solar systems from most manufacturers — including Enphase microinverter systems, SolarEdge inverters, and older string inverters. Your existing array keeps producing exactly as it does today, and the Powerwall stores the excess instead of exporting it at NEM 3.0's low credit rates. LED Guys handles the AC-coupled design, Backup Gateway integration, LADBS permit, and LADWP paperwork so your existing array starts charging your new battery.

Question 4

Is a Powerwall worth it without solar?

Accepted Answer

In North Hollywood, it can be. A standalone Powerwall charges from the grid during off-peak hours and provides automatic whole-home backup during outages — valuable given the Valley's summer heat events and aging distribution infrastructure. The strongest financial case still comes from pairing the battery with solar under NEM 3.0, but many homeowners install the Powerwall first for outage protection and add solar later; the battery is already in place and ready to connect.

Question 5

Tesla Powerwall vs. Enphase IQ Battery — which should I choose?

Accepted Answer

Both are excellent products. Enphase's modular 5 kWh batteries allow granular sizing and pair naturally with existing Enphase microinverter systems. The Powerwall 3 delivers far more power per unit — 11.5 kW, enough to start central air conditioning on a single battery — plus an integrated solar inverter that lowers the cost of new solar-plus-storage systems, and the strongest retrofit flexibility through AC-coupling. LED Guys is Tesla Energy Certified and builds its main service around the Powerwall, but Jorge will tell you honestly if your specific system favors another platform.

Question 6

Do I need a permit for solar or a Powerwall in North Hollywood?

Accepted Answer

Yes. All solar and battery storage installations in North Hollywood are permitted through the City of Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety (LADBS), and grid-tied systems require an LADWP interconnection application. LED Guys prepares and submits both, handles all plan check correspondence, and schedules the final inspection. You are never responsible for navigating the permit or utility approval process on your own.

Question 7

Do I need a panel upgrade before installing solar or a battery?

Accepted Answer

Many North Hollywood homes built before 1980 have 100-amp panels that do not meet the requirements for a grid-tied solar or battery installation. Jorge evaluates your panel as part of the free site assessment and tells you clearly whether an upgrade is needed. When it is, LED Guys bundles the 200-amp panel upgrade into the project under a single LADBS permit — faster and more cost-effective than treating it as a separate job.

Question 8

How does LADWP net metering affect my solar savings?

Accepted Answer

LADWP operates under NEM 3.0 rules, which credit exported solar at avoided-cost rates — much lower than the retail rates earlier customers received. This makes battery storage the key financial tool: instead of exporting midday production at low credit rates, the Powerwall stores it and dispatches it during the evening peak when LADWP rates are highest. LED Guys designs every North Hollywood system around self-consumption optimization so you capture the full value of your production.

Question 9

How long does the whole project take?

Accepted Answer

A typical North Hollywood solar-plus-Powerwall project runs four to eight weeks from signed contract to system energization: design (one to two weeks), LADBS permit approval (two to four weeks depending on workload), physical installation (one to three days for most residential systems), City inspection, and LADWP permission to operate. LED Guys manages every milestone and provides regular status updates. A standalone Powerwall retrofit is typically faster.
