WHY LED GUYS

Pacific Palisades LED Lighting Specialists

Pacific Palisades is home to some of Los Angeles's most architecturally distinguished properties — from the sprawling oceanfront estates of the Huntington Palisades to the hillside custom homes of the Riviera and Marquez Knolls. These properties demand lighting systems that match the level of craftsmanship invested in the structures themselves. LED Guys brings C10 licensed electrical expertise to every project, whether that means designing a full cove-lighting system for a barrel-vault ceiling, installing Wireless dimmer controls compatible with Apple HomeKit and Google Home.

The walkable Village core and Alphabet Streets neighborhood are prime territory for both residential upgrades — under-cabinet kitchen LEDs, stair accent lighting, bathroom shower niche fixtures — and small commercial retrofits. Property managers overseeing multi-family buildings near PCH regularly benefit from exterior wallpack replacements and parking area floodlights that cut energy consumption by 60–75% compared to outgoing HID fixtures.

Our team makes the 29-minute drive from Van Nuys via I-405 South and Sunset Boulevard to serve clients throughout the 90272 zip code. From a single retrofit can to a whole-estate lighting redesign, LED Guys delivers the same licensed, detail-oriented service to every Pacific Palisades address.

COMMON ISSUES

LED Problems We Solve in Pacific Palisades

Flickering, buzzing, or underperforming LED systems are almost always caused by incompatible dimmers, undersized drivers, or improper wiring — all fixable by a licensed C10 electrician.

Flickering LEDs on Dimmer Circuits

The most common LED complaint in Pacific Palisades homes — usually caused by legacy incandescent dimmers mismatched to LED loads. We replace incompatible dimmers with wireless dimmer or Leviton LED-rated models and verify trailing-edge or forward-phase compatibility with your specific fixtures.

Voltage Drop on Long Strip Runs

Cove lighting in the barrel-vault ceilings and long kitchen runs common to Palisades estates frequently suffer brightness fade at the end of a strip. We size drivers correctly and inject power mid-run on any installation exceeding 16 feet to eliminate voltage drop entirely.

Buzzing Drivers Behind Walls

Low-quality or undersized LED drivers installed during quick flips or cosmetic remodels buzz audibly through drywall in quiet Palisades bedrooms and studies. We remove and replace failed or undersized drivers with properly rated constant-current or constant-voltage units matched to fixture load.

Outdated Fluorescent Fixtures Needing Retrofit

Inefficient HID Wallpacks on Building Exteriors

Metal halide and high-pressure sodium wallpacks on Palisades commercial buildings consume 175–400 watts each and require frequent lamp replacements. Modern LED wallpacks deliver equivalent or superior output at 20–80 watts with 50,000-hour-rated lifespans and no warm-up delay.

Permits Required for Panel-Fed Lighting Circuits

New dedicated lighting circuits, subpanel additions, and expanded outdoor lighting systems in Pacific Palisades require LADBS permits. Many contractors skip this step — LED Guys always pulls required permits and schedules City of Los Angeles inspections on every qualifying project.

LED PRODUCT GUIDE

Know Your LEDs — What We Install in Pacific Palisades

A practical reference to the LED product types LED Guys installs throughout Pacific Palisades homes, estates, and commercial properties.

LED Strip Lights

5–24W per meter

Flexible adhesive-backed strips using surface-mount LEDs. Used for cove lighting, under cabinet, stair edges, and accent work. Available in single-color (3000K–6500K), tunable white, and full RGBW. Require an LED driver sized to total wattage of the run. Professional installation ensures correct driver selection, clean terminations, and no voltage drop on long runs over 16 feet.

LED Wallpacks

20–80W typical

Surface-mounted exterior fixtures replacing metal halide or HPS wallpacks on building exteriors, parking structures, and loading docks. Replace 175–400W HID lamps at a fraction of the energy cost. Cut-off optics minimize light pollution.. Require C10 licensed installation when hardwired to building electrical systems.

LED Floodlights

30–300W range

Area-lighting fixtures used for parking lots, sports courts, building facades, and landscape uplighting. Wide beam spreads (60°–120°) or narrow spot beams (15°–30°) depending on application. Higher lumen output applications require dedicated circuits and proper conduit. Photocell or motion-sensor integration is common on commercial installs.

LED Retrofit Kits

10–45W (replaces 60–175W)

Drop-in LED modules that install into existing troffer, high-bay, or can-light housings without replacing the entire fixture. Most cost-effective upgrade path for commercial spaces. Typical payback of 1–2 years in energy savings.

LED Downlights / Recessed

6–15W (replaces 50–75W)

Recessed ceiling-mounted fixtures for residential and commercial spaces. Available in fixed or gimbal (adjustable) versions. IC-rated for insulation contact in attic-adjacent ceilings. Wet-location rated for bathrooms. Retrofit trim kits install in existing 4" or 6" cans. New construction requires low-voltage junction box or direct-wire LED module.

LED Cove & Linear

8–18W per foot of run

Architectural lighting using aluminum LED channel profiles (extrusions) to create a clean diffused light line. Used for cove ceilings, cornice molding, barrel vaults, beam lighting, cabinet tops, bathroom mirrors, and staircase handrails. Professional installation includes proper extrusion selection, diffuser choice (clear, frosted, or opal), driver sizing, and wireless dimmer integration for smooth 0–100% control.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions — Pacific Palisades LED Lighting

Pacific Palisades is within the City of Los Angeles, so permits are governed by LADBS. New dedicated circuits, panel-fed outdoor lighting systems, and subpanel additions all require permits. Simple fixture-for-fixture LED replacements on existing circuits typically do not require a permit, but any new wiring run or circuit addition does. LED Guys pulls all required permits and schedules LADBS inspections on every qualifying project — there are no shortcuts taken on permitted work.

Quality LED strip lights are rated for 50,000 hours under optimal thermal conditions. In Southern California, heat buildup in enclosed coves or under-cabinet spaces can reduce lifespan if the installation is not done correctly. LED Guys installs strips within aluminum extrusion channel profiles, which act as heat sinks and significantly extend lifespan by dissipating heat away from the LED diodes. We also select products rated for ambient temperatures up to 40°C to ensure reliable long-term performance in warm California environments.

A plug-in LED driver connects to a standard outlet and is typically used for low-load accent or display applications. A hardwired driver is permanently connected to a dedicated circuit — it provides more stable power delivery, supports longer strip runs, and is required in concealed-installation applications such as cove ceilings, cabinet soffits, and in-wall channels. For all permanent architectural LED installations in Pacific Palisades homes and businesses, LED Guys uses hardwired constant-current or constant-voltage drivers properly sized to the full load of the lighting run.

Yes — we verify LED-to-dimmer compatibility before any fixture is installed. Dimmer manufacturers publish compatibility lists that specify which LED fixtures and drivers have been tested and confirmed to work without flickering or buzzing. If your existing wireless dimmer is not compatible with the LED products you want, we can replace it with a compatible wireless dimmer model or reprogram your system. We do not install LED fixtures until compatibility is confirmed in writing from the manufacturer's documentation.

Wallpack wattage selection depends on the mounting height, the area to be illuminated, and the required foot-candle level at ground plane. A typical 12-foot mounting height on a Pacific Palisades commercial building perimeter requires a 40–60W LED wallpack to replace a 175W metal halide unit. Parking structures or loading dock areas with higher mounting heights often require 60–80W. LED Guys performs a photometric assessment and specifies the correct wattage and beam distribution for each installation — we do not use a one-size-fits-all approach to commercial exterior lighting.
